FRUIT BEARING SHRUBS

Fruit shrubs are a great addition to your landscape, often with a fragrant, attractive blooms, followed by your very own fresh fruit to pick!  For the best selection of fruit shrubs, shop in early spring.  

BLUEBERRIES

Highbush blueberries are self-fruitful but do benefit from cross-pollination with other cultivars. Blueberries require acidic soils and full sun. Fall colours are brilliant reds. 

  • BLUE CROP- Self-fruitful. An upright variety with consistent yields of high quality berries and good disease resistance. Drought Tolerant. Harvest July. 
  • BLUE RAY- Self-fruitful. An upright, hardy variety with large, powder blue fruit. A heavy producer of sweet berries. Burgundy fall colour. Harvest late July.
  • CHIPPEWA- Self-fruitful. Large dark fruit with a sweet-tart taste. Excellent for eating fresh, cooking or freezing. Turns bright red in the fall. Harvest July
  • JERSEY- Self-fruitful. Medium-sized dark fruit is very sweet. An upright, easy to grow, reliably heavy producer is a favourite for home bakers. Harvest late July.
  • NORTH COUNTRY- Self-fruitful. Medium sized sky blue berries to 1/2" wide. Sweet to mild, wild blueberry with good quality. Tough vigorous plants yields 2-7 pounds per bush at maturity. Harvest mid July.
  • PATRIOT- Self-fruitful. Large blue fruit with good flavour. A very hardy upright growing plants. Tolerant of heavier soils than others. Fiery orange fall colour. Harvest July. 

BLACKBERRIES

  • BLACK SATIN- Self-fruitful. Huge glossy sized black fruit. Superior thronless variety. Harvest July

BOYSENBERRIES

  • Self-fruitful. Large red-black fruit, similar appearance to blackberry. Boysenberries are a combination of blackberries, raspberries and loganberries. They are sweet, juicy for fresh eating, canning, preserving, freezing. Harvest runs from mid-June to early July.

CURRANT

  • BLACK- Self-fruitful. 
  • WHITE - Self-fruitful. Edible white fruit with greenish tinges. It is a small upright shrub with great uses for making jelly, jam or wine. Harvest July. 

GOOSEBERRIES

  • WECOME GREEN- Self-fruitful. Small grape sized fruit that is great fresh, cooked or canned. Harvest July
  • PIXWELL- Self-fruitful. Pale green fruit becoming pink when ripe. Few thorns. Produces white flowers and fruits on old wood. Likes rich, well-drained soil. Suitable for shady locations. Makes great jelly.

STRAWBERRIES

  • RED COAT- Self-fruitful. Medium sized red and attractive berries. Suitable for jam. 
  • SEASCAPE- Self-fruitful. Good sized berry with a glossy finish. Firm and has good flavour. Good producer. Harvest is Everbearing.

RASPBERRIES

  • BOYNE- Self-fruitful. Red flavourful fruit that is especially good for dessert or preserving. Vigorous, erect and study plant that is very productive and hardy. Harvest mid July.
  • HERITAGE- Self-fruitful. Red flavourful fruit. First crop is mid July with a second crop in early September.
  • KILLARNEY- Self-fruitful. Deep red, firm flesh fruit. Fast growing raspberry has very sturdy, medium size canes. Excellent choice for home growing. Enjoy the aroma and flavour right off the vine, in jams or preserving. Freezes well too! Harvest early August.
